Naval Communicator

There are three (3) levels of Naval Communicator that may be obtained. Only the highest level badge may be worn on the right sleeve.

Semaphore
What is Semaphore?
Semaphore practice
1. Send a semaphore message in clear
words at a speed of 25 characters per minute for two minutes making not more than 10 errors.

2. Receive a semaphore message in plain
language at a speed of 25 characters per minute for two minutes making not more than 10 errors.

3. Exam to be conducted by an examiner
approved by the ACO (Sea).

Flags and Pennants
Nautical flags practice
1. Identify all flags and pennants used by
the Navy and obtain a grade of 80%.

2. Recite the phonetic alphabet and
numerals and obtain a grade of 90%.

3. Exam to be conducted by an examiner
approved by the ACO (Sea).

Restricted Radio Operator - Marine
1. Pass a maritime radio operator exam in
accordance with the standards mandated by
Industry Canada, including the certificate issued by the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons.

2. Exam to be conducted by a qualified
examiner.
